Tutor a kid in person or virtual! Stipends for Bilinguals! El Buen Samaritano

Position Summary:We are currently seeking volunteers that will provide at least 8 hours of in-person and/or virtual academic support and tutoring for elementary and/or middle school students.

Organizational Description: For more than 35 years, El Buen Samaritano (El Buen) has been a trusted community resource for Latino and immigrant families in Central Texas, serving more than 8,000 individuals annually through innovative, culturally relevant food access, health literacy, and education programming.

Responsibilities: Mon- Tuesday (Virtual) 4:00-6:00 pm, Wed-Fri (In-person) 4:00-6:00 pm

• Assist Youth Development Coordinators (YDC) with tutoring and the implementation of academic, social
emotional, and physical activity curriculum.
• Recognize primary role to help students become more confident, more successful, self-directed learners.
• Provide 1:1 homework support, tutoring, and academic enrichment activities in English and/or Spanish.
• Work with YDC to implement and follow up on students individualized lesson plans.

Qualifications and Skills:

Excellent Bilingual skills in English/Spanish required (Speaking, writing and reading).
• Experience providing tutoring focusing on: basic math, reading, and writing or other schoolwork assignments.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); ability to learn and utilize document
creation software such as Adobe Acrobat and databases.
• Must have a valid Texas driver’s license.
• Ability to use technology to facilitate virtual lessons, attend meetings, and provide student support.

Compensation and Benefits:
Bilingual volunteers receive $500 as a stipend at the end of each semester. Must pass a background check and participate in training prior to working directly with students
